Meet Becca Schumann: Flywheel’s New Winston-Salem Community Manager
We’re thrilled to welcome Becca Schumann to the Flywheel team as the new Community Manager in Winston-Salem. Relocating from Colorado this past August, Becca is new to Flywheel, new to Winston-Salem, and new to North Carolina—bringing with her fresh energy, a strong hospitality background, and a genuine passion for cultivating meaningful connections.
A Colorado native, Becca spent her career in conference and event management at Colorado State University before embracing a new adventure on the East Coast. The move also brought her closer to her partner, Nick, who works at Wake Forest. Outside of work, Becca enjoys spending time with Nick, walking her dog Cooper, baking sourdough, and diving into a good book. (And yes—you can expect book recommendations in future Monday memos!)
Below, Becca shares more about her transition, her hopes for Flywheel, and what community means to her.
What excites you the most about stepping into the Community Manager role at Flywheel?
As someone new to Winston-Salem, I’m excited to get to know the city through our members. It’s a unique opportunity to build relationships while learning the community from their perspective. With my background in hospitality, I’m passionate about creating meaningful experiences and supporting others here at Flywheel.
What are you hoping to bring to Flywheel?
With experience across many types of events, I hope to help foster connection through member programs, social gatherings, and other engaging opportunities. I’ve planned and executed numerous conferences, so I’m especially looking forward to contributing to the ConvergeSouth Conference in September.
What has been your favorite part about Winston-Salem so far?
After spending my entire life in Colorado, it has been so fun to explore new foods. I’ve quickly become a fan of Southern biscuits and Cheerwine. A few of my favorite local spots so far are Village Tavern, Louie & Honey, Camino, and The Porch. I would add Bojangles or Biscuitville to the list, but I’m still deciding on which one I prefer!
What does community mean to you, and how do you hope to incorporate this into your role as Community Manager?
To me, community means doing life together—having people you can rely on, celebrate with, and turn to during both good and challenging moments. It’s about connection, trust, and shared experiences. In my role as Community Manager, I hope to cultivate an environment where members feel supported, valued, and connected to one another.
